The CBE is by law required to take in all students by the time they are 6 years old, although some can enter the Kindergarten program as young as age 4.
The Board must take in all children regardless of their religious affiliations. Calgary being the fastest growing city in Canada, with a very large immigrant component, provides the teaching staff of 5500 some big challenges. There are numerous new sub-divisions under development in Calgary and in all of them you will see signs that “Site of Future School”, but that does not necessarily mean that a school is about to be build on that site. If you are considering moving into a sub-division, you will be well advised to check with the Calgary Board of Education for detailed information. At the present time there are 18 schools under construction! Details about the state of development of these schools can be obtained from the Office at 515 Macleod Trail SE, Calgary, AB., T2G 2L9 Phone (403) 294 8211 or by visiting School Board's website then click on Site Map and click on Schools Under Development.
You will also be able to find progress reports on the construction of the Education Centre.
One of the special programs the Calgary Public Board offers is the CBE International Bureau that supports parents from outside of Canada who are looking to have their children under the age of 18 years attend public education programs here in Calgary.
Of course I can not tell you all there is to know about the CBE and you would not expect me to do so.
May I suggest that if you have any specific questions that are not immediately available on the
School Board's website
that you fill in the form below and I will try to find the answer for you.
We hope that your visit here has been helpful and we thank you by presenting you with a token of our appreciation.
