Is Calgary business pretty much like any other major cosmopolitan centre?

YES and NO…

Calgary business has the butchers, the bakers and the candlestick makers etc…….

And then of course there is a very large percentage of business related to all the energy sectors, not the least of these being the tar sands.

The vast majority of people moving in to the Calgary area (and the rest of Alberta) move here to take advantage of the enormous opportunities for employment in the energy sector.

But there is an unbelievable shortage of labor in all other sectors of industry, because of the unprecedented growth in Alberta as a whole.

The construction of the infrastructure required to support this growth is already booked 6 years ahead, and the costs are escalating up to 40% and more annually, simply because of delays due to material and labor shortages.

So this basically opens the doors for any one with any kind of skill, and even for the unskilled laborers.

The signs are out everywhere and the pay is better than anywhere else.

What an opportunity for entrepreneurs!

Those who are of the entrepreneurial spirit have an excellent source of reliable information available through the

Calgary Chamber of Commerce

I could go on for days about all the excitement around here, but I suggest you check out the opportunities relating to your own employment through the sources recommended in some of my other pages.

In the fall of 2009 Calgary business hosted the Grey Cup game and although the Stampeders relinquished the title to the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the festivities brought a substantial boost to the Calgary economy, and a great time was had by all the participants.

Now we are concentrating again on the ongoing expansion of this great city.

In the downtown area the construction of ‘The Bow’ is on schedule and already shows it’s impressive and magnificent presence.

Furthermore the $25 mil. contribution by the City to the Cantos Music center development gave a substantial boost to the development of the East Village which will give the downtown a totally new and exciting component.

In addition there are great additions to major shopping centers and there are a lot of other exciting things happening in terms of LRT expansion and major road construction.
