Calgary Health Region Will Spend $2.5 Billion In The Next 5 years.

Calgary Health Region President and CEO Jack Davis outlined the plans for the next 5 years in the third annual report to the community on Feb. 5-2007.

In it he committed the Region to spend an additional $2.5 Billion in order to add an additional 700 beds to this system.

Although he wanted to assure everyone that the needs of the community will be met, he made it abundantly clear that there are some enormous targets to be reached.

While a lot is being done, the need for staffing all sectors of the system is awesome to say the least.

Mr Davis stated that the Health Region will need to add some 37.000 health care professionals and no less than 3.300 physicians to meet all the needs of an aging population in a rapidly expanding metropolitan area.

As it stands right now, if he could hire every graduate from the medical schools in all of Alberta, he would be 50% short of the requirements.
