Famous Calgary Resorts That You Can Enjoy Are Not That Far Away.

Calgary Resorts will make you feel like clocking out early on the weekend and checking in for some down time, and you don’t have far to go.

The spectacular landscape of the Rocky Mountains, green woodlands, and blue waters is tailor-made for resort getaways, and the Calgary Resorts area is home to more than its fair share.

Alberta’s rivers, lakes, forests, and peaks provide the setting for world-famous resorts offering year-round recreational and corporate retreats.

As you’d expect from a land so richly endowed with natural wonders, outdoor activities take center stage in these facilities, but you don’t have to be an accomplished athlete to enjoy yourself.

One of the many benefits of staying in a Calgary Resort is the luxury of doing whatever you want, whether it’s braving the rapids in a white-water raft or conquering the bubbles in a poolside Jacuzzi.

If you can’t quite decide between these two options, Rafter Six Ranch Resort may be the answer.

A forty-five-minute drive west from Calgary on the Trans-Canada Highway brings you to this sprawling, authentic western ranch that specializes in ‘rustic luxury.”

Its three-story-high log cabin, complete with handmade, ranch-style furniture, is one of the largest in the world.

Guests can stay in one of its eighteen lodge rooms or in one of the dozen private, heated log cabins with patio decks.

Groups can stay in one of the four chalets that feature private kitchenettes.   When you’re at Rafter Six, you’re in cowboy country, so there’s horseback riding, wagon and carriage rides, western barbecues, and wilderness camping.

A museum and adventure center display cowboy and Plains Indians artifacts, including authentic teepees and a stagecoach, and the Critter Corral gives children hands-on exposure to farm animals.

Adventurers can take guided white-water-rafting excursions, and laid-back guests can drift lazily in a canoe or soak in the whirlpool bath.

Rafter Six enjoys celebrity status as the setting for many films, including the one that launched Marilyn Monroe’s screen career, and a cabin built for Walt Disney still bears his name.

There are many so-called Calgary Resorts, and if you’re looking for something less rustic, the Grand Canadian Resort Condominiums offer relaxation with a modern edge.

This boutique condo hotel is ninety minutes from Calgary International Airport and twenty minutes from Banff.

Its condominium complex is set against a backdrop of green trees and mountain peaks, and the graceful architecture of the stone-and-wood buildings is nothing like the cold, institutionalized structures usually associated with contemporary spaces.

Inside, 1150-square-foot, two-bedroom condominiums and larger two-bedroom suites house guests on an overnight, vacation-ownership, or extended-stay basis.

Full kitchens and private laundry equipment make the units self-sufficient, and there are plenty of facilities on the premises to keep visitors busy.

These include a heated outdoor pool, an exercise room, a games room, and whirlpool baths.   Outdoors, the unsurpassed scenery of the Canadian Rockies serves as a beautiful backdrop for alpine recreational pursuits, such as hiking along trails that betray little about the intrusion of civilization.

Winter sports like snowboarding entertain guests in the colder months, and there is an eighteen-hole golf course nearby for those who want to test their swings in the warmer seasons.

These are only two of the Calgary Resort options available to anyone who wants to escape the humdrum concerns of life for a day, a week, or much longer.

For Calgarians, there’s a different world just a short drive away.

We spend a lot of time in the Banff and Canmore areas and will be glad to answer any specific questions you may have.
