At Canada Olympic Park You Can Get In On All The Olympic Fun You Can Handle.

Canada Olympic Park in Calgary gives winter sports enthusiasts the opportunity to be skiing in the same park used by contenders during the Olympic games. It can't get any better than that.

Canada Olympic Park (COP), located on the western edge of Calgary on Trans-Canada Highway Number One, was the primary site for ski jumping, bobsleighing, and luge competitions in the 1988 XV Olympic Winter Games, and its 22-foot Olympic-quality half-pipe will serve as a prototype for the Vancouver 2010 feature to be built in Cypress Bowl.

With such an impressive pedigree, it’s no wonder that professional athletes and the general public make more than a quarter-million ski and snowboard visits each year.

Canada Olympic Park operates as a year-round training, competition, and recreational facility, and it houses Canada’s only refrigerated bobsleigh track.

Famous for its winter downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, luge, skeleton, and bobsleighing facilities, COP also plays host to warm-weather activities such as cycling events and summer camps.

The park includes a National Sports School as well as the Olympic Hall of Fame and Museum.

All this activity takes place within a carefully planned learning structure that matches visitors with appropriate levels of challenge.

COP welcomes people of all ages and abilities, even those who have never strapped on a pair of skis or jumped onto a snowboard, and it schedules classes for children and adults of all ages.

Terrain Park is the venue for skiing and snowboarding, and its numerous areas are based on progression, presenting beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels of challenges.

Skiers and riders master the easier lines before moving on to the more difficult ones and finally to the trickiest take-offs and jumps.

COP also has cross-country facilities, and it conducts classes on the sport for both children and adults.

Other attractions include the Ice House, the world’s sole indoor training ground for bobsleigh, skeleton, and luge athletes, and a bobsleigh track that guided the Jamaican bobsleigh team on its first Olympic run.

There’s a sixty-second public bobsleigh ride down the 1,500-meter Olympic ice track that allows passengers to enjoy the thrills as the park’s driver controls the nearly 120- kilometers-per-hour descent.

The Olympic Hall of Fame and Museum, North America’s largest Olympic museum, houses Olympic memorabilia and displays.

These include twenty Olympic torches and a new Virtual Reality Hockey Shootout Display that recreates the Olympic hockey rink experience.

A new wireless, hands-free audio entertainment system facilitates self-paced, guide-free tours of the park in a number of languages.

The 90-meter Ski Jump Tower, Calgary’s tallest elevated structure, gives visitors an unsurpassed view of Calgary and the mountains.

Warm weather puts an end to snow-related sports but ushers in the summertime programs.

A mountain bike park features an obstacle course, BMX track and free-ride stunts, and over 25 kilometers of single and open track trails.

Summer chairlifts carry passengers on a picturesque ride up or down a hill, and Camp Torch offers various programs for children of all ages.

COP sponsors many classes, clinics, camps, tournaments, and special events throughout the year for children and adults, including sports leagues and clubs.

The Naturbahn Teahouse at the top of the park offers a Sunday brunch menu, and its vantage point gives diners a 360-degree panoramic view of the surrounding city and the Rockies.

There is truly something for everyone at Canada Olympic Park, regardless of sports ability or the time of year.
