Calgary Colleges Serve The Needs Of Students With Five Large-scale, Public Post-secondary Institutions.
Calgary Colleges can give you the education you want, whether your sights are set on inventing a revolutionary software program, painting a modern art masterpiece, or concocting a new chili recipe.
Ever since its first one opened in 1912, Calgary has been strengthening its scholastic assets to keep pace with a booming population.
College and university locations throughout the city now offer educational opportunities in a wide range of subjects, formats, and timetables, putting flexibility at the head of the class.
With five large-scale, public post-secondary institutions and numerous smaller, private schools, Calgary serves the needs of students with diverse goals and hectic schedules.
If you’re pursuing an academic degree through a traditional liberal arts program or seeking a training certificate from a vocational or technical school, one of the Calgary institutions can give you an education where, when, and how you want it.
The University of Calgary
is the city’s largest campus, opening in 1912 as part of the University of Alberta and gaining autonomy in 1966.
It's impressive history includes serving as the site for speed-skating events in the 1988 Winter Olympics, creating a science experiment that traveled onboard the 1992 NASA space shuttle Challenger, and counting among its alumni the current Prime Minister of Canada.
The public university occupies 213 hectares of land in northwest Calgary at 2500 University Drive and awards bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees and certificates.
It supports more than eighty undergraduate, graduate, and professional academic programs within sixteen disciplines, as well as thirty-six research facilities.
The Rosza Centre, Physical Education Complex, Olympic Oval, and Nickel Arts Museum are also located on the college’s grounds.
Mount Royal Campus
opened in 1910 at a single site nicknamed “The Barn,” but due to steady expansion and modernization it now educates 13,000 students at three high-tech city locations.
The public facility grants four-year baccalaureate degrees, two-year diplomas, and one-year certificates through more than sixty programs in areas such as arts, communications, business, science, technology, and community studies.
This school accommodates part-time studies, university transfers, continuing education, and academic upgrading. Sculptures share campus space with a lake and a fountain, and the Nickle Theatre and Leacock Theatre are located on Mount Royal property.
Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) Polytechnic
is Canada’s first publicly funded technical institute.
Through its main campus at 1301 16th Avenue NW and two additional campuses offering specialized training, SAIT awards certificates, diplomas, and applied degrees through academic and continuing education courses, distance learning, and apprenticeship programs in a variety of fields.
Besides its renowned technical and hands-on training, SAIT’s curriculum includes professional classes in areas such as writing, cooking, and tourism.
With an annual student population of 75,000, the school is a major source for skilled labor in the energy sector, and it boasts a remarkable graduate employment rate of 97%.
The Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD)
is located on Calgary’s north hill, with a prospect of the Bow River and the city’s downtown skyline.
Founded in 1926, the public school combines studio-based learning in design, fine art, and new media with practical theory and liberal studies.
It enjoys high-ranking faculty and space-per-student ratios due to its roomy studios and small classes.
Private Calgary facilities include Alliance University, Nazarene University, St. Mary’s University, and DeVry Career College’s only Canadian campus.
