Mount Royal University Boasts Of Three Main Facilities.

Today Mount Royal University looks nothing like it did in 1911 when it first opened its doors to welcome a student body of 189 into a downtown building with the telltale nickname of “the barn.”

Thanks to nearly one hundred years of continual growth, the college now boasts three modern and high-tech main facilities, several satellite campuses, student residence halls, and an annual student population of almost 13,000.

The Mount Royal University Lincoln Park Campus at 4825 Mount Royal Gate SW replaced the old building in 1972, and a 1989 expansion nearly doubled the site’s capacity.

In 1999 the Mount Royal University Holy Cross Campus opened on the property once occupied by Holy Cross Hospital at 2204 2nd Street SW.

A Springbank Hangar Campus just west of Calgary at 143 MacLaurin Drive at the Springbank Airport serves some of the Mount Royal University students enrolled in the aviation program.

Mount Royal property is also home to a lake, a fountain, the Nickle Theatre, and the Leacock Theatre.

The diversity of this physical environment is reflected in the college’s wide-ranging curriculum choices, which cover almost every letter of the alphabet, from A for Accounting to M for Music to Z for Zoology.

Four-year baccalaureate degrees available through the college include those for Accounting, Nursing, Applied Business Administration, Applied Child Studies, Applied Communications, Applied Business and Entrepreneurship, Applied Computer Information Systems and Business, Applied Eco-tourism and Outdoor Leadership, Applied Financial Services, Applied Interior Design, Applied International Business and Supply Chain Management, Applied Justice Studies, Applied Non-profit Studies, Applied Policy Studies, and Applied Science—Environmental Science. In partnership with Athabasca University, Mount Royal College also offers four-year Bachelor of Arts degrees.

The college is committed to meeting the unique needs of each student, so if the conventional four-year degree program is not for you, you can take advantage of many other academic plans.

You can earn a two-year diploma in Arts and Sciences, Aviation, Broadcasting, Business Administration (General Business Administration, Human Resources, or Marketing Management), Business Administration and Insurance, Child and Youth Care Counseling, Computer Information Systems, Disability Studies, Early Learning and Child Care, General Studies, Music Performance, Social Work, or Theatre Arts. One-year certificate programs are available for Athletic Therapy, Bridge to Canadian Nursing, Business Administration, Computer Science, Environmental Technology, General Studies, Journalism, Post-Basic Nursing and Health, Suzuki Piano Pedagogy, and Technical Writing. Mount Royal College also supports part-time studies, academic upgrading, continuing education, and university transfers for Bachelors of Arts, Commerce, Education, Engineering, Physical Education, Science, and Science—Computer Science.

In addition to this comprehensive selection of courses, Mount Royal College offers a good student-teacher ratio, with seventy percent of the classes comprising thirty or fewer students.

Statistics attest to the benefits of a Mount Royal College education, as ninety-nine percent of its graduates express satisfaction with their school experience and ninety-four percent find work within six months of graduation.

The Univerity has done well athletic-wise too, with the men’s soccer team winning the Alberta College Athletic Conference title for nine years running and the women’s soccer team winning it for five successive seasons.

The school enjoys a distinctive pedigree in several ways.

Members of the Mount Royal Conservatory joined forces with other musicians in 1949 to form the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Mount Royal Court student residence facility is the same structure that was built for the 1988 Winter Olympics.

Notable Mount Royal University alumni include former Calgary mayor Jack Leslie, retired diplomat and general John de Chastelain, B.C. Supreme Court Justice Alison Beames, and CFL Hall of Famer Larry Robinson.
