Sport In Calgary Got An Enormous Boost From The Olympics.
The Calgary Sport scene provides opportunities for both Professional and Amateur Athletes alike, and no matter what you prefer, Calgary has the best facilities and training staff in all of Canada in my humble opinion.
Let’s first have a look at professional teams.
The
Calgary Flames
who achieved 1 Championship in 1980 in The National Hockey League
Then there are The
Calgary Stampeders
, 6 times champions of the Canadian Football League.
Next we have The
Calgary Roughnecks
who are 2 times champions in the National Lacrosse League.
And also The
Calgary Vipers
part of the Golden Baseball League.
Of course there are many other crowd-pleasers in the Amateur and Junior clubs:
First let’s mention The
Calgary Hitmen
who have 1 championship under the belt as members of the Western Hockey League.
And with no less than 9 championship we have the
Calgary Canucks
who play in the Max Bell Centre as members of the Alberta Junior Hockey League with 9 championships.
Another team from the Alberta Junior Hockey League and playing in the Father Bauer Olympic Arena and boasting 1 championship is the
Calgary Royals
Finally, and in a class of their own, the
Calgary Oval X-Treme of the Western Women’s Hockey League.
Now let’s move on to some other sports.
These are presented in no particular order and undoubtly, in spite of my valiant efforts I will not be able to cover everything.
But here we go:
Volleyball
which can be played on the beach, an the grass and indoors.
Motor Sports ( link to: RaceCity.html ) are always great crowd pleaser.
Golf is one of the most popular pastimes and almost everyone gets involved in it, or at least has a relative or a friend who plays.
Climbing is a very demanding sport and is very popular in Calgary because of the close proximity to the Rocky Mountains.
Archery has been gaining in popularity for a couple of obvious reasons. One is the Olympics and the other of course is the fantastic availability of a good variety of game.
BMX
in Calgary has excellent facilities that are centrally located and therefore is gaining in popularity accordingly.
Soccer
is now very popular and both sexes have their clubs and age does not seem to be a barrier for those who want to play.
The vast majority of players fall under the authority of the
Calgary Minor Soccer Association as you will realize when you explore my links here.
Football other than the Professional club deserves further attention and I hope this link will at least provide you an overview of the Calgary scene.

information may be found by clicking the

With time and patience I will bring it all to you.
