Drilling Rig Jobs Are Very Demanding.
Because drilling rig jobs are such a great way to make and save a lot of money fast, there is a lot of competition for these very demanding positions.
These drilling rig jobs require a different lifestyle and
“to go or not to go”is a serious question when it comes to a making a decision to work in the oil sector.
This short overview of the types of jobs and the kind of pay that can be expected might be just what you need to make your decision.
Let's quickly look at what's out there and who's doing what.
Management crews are guided by the Toolpusher who usually is an experienced driller.
The toolpusher works in the rig office and supervises the rig floor, and earns approximately $110.000.
Other positions on the management level can draw salaries up to $170.000.
On the other end of the scale you find the entry level positions such as:
A Roustabout who is supposed to keep the main deck and the pipe deck clean and tidy, and guide the crane as loads are moved around the decks, can expect to earn around $55.000.
Then there are Painters earning approx.$58.000
Mud Engeneers knowledgable in chemistry earning about
$70.000 and up.
Add Medics at around $70.000
And Radio operators at $60.000
In between you'll find the Derickman at approximately
$65.000,
the Driller at around $85.000
and his assistant at $70.000.
Of course the crew needs to eat so there are the catering crews
with
Cooks and Bakers earning around $60.000.
By now you get the feel for what the possible earnings are.
If you want to persue this further, this site goes in a great deal more detail and will help you in making an informed decision.
Of course the lifestyle is something else again and it obviously is not for every one.
Because of the lifestyle associated with drilling rig jobs, there is a high worker turnover rate.
Personaly I know some people who love the drilling rig jobs because the pay is so much better than what they can normally earn outside the oil patch.
Add that to the fact that there is really no place to spend your money, the savings add up fast and it will enable you to buy a decent home or take great vacations, or start your own business sooner than would otherwise be possible.
Great for single people of course.
.
For married people, ...not so good.
One of my friends who is a married man gave it up after only two shifts, not because of the pay, which, as a qualified electrician, was fantastic.
He wanted to pay of his mortgage earlier, but decided that this lifestyle was not worth it for him.
Pluses and minuses is what it's all about.
Think it over carefully before you jump in to it, and talk to some folks who have “been there and done that”.
